Visitors' Information
Language

Tagalog is the official language of Filipinos. Basic English is widely understood by most people involved in tourism. Filipinos are not scornful of attempts by visitors to speak the language and welcome even the most halting attempts to speak Tagalog.

English is widely spoken in business circles.

Newspapers and Magazines
There are many daily English-language newspapers: The Philippine Daily Inquirer is the most widely read, The Philippine Star and many other tabloids. They provide a summary of events in the Philippines and news from around the world including stock market reports plus cultural and entertainment listings.

Climate
The rainy season is from June through October, April and May are relatively dry.

Time
The time zone of the country is on GMT-8 throughout the year.

Electricity
Philippines has a 220 volts AC system with two flat-pin plugs. Visitors from the UK, Ireland, Australasia and Europe should bring a transformer and plug adapter; visitors from the US and Canada can use their own appliances with adapters.

Taxis
There are different types of services. Hotel taxis offer exclusive air-conditioned service but are more expensive. Street taxis operate 24-hours a day and are more economical. You should negotiate the price.

Health and Security
Because it is an international tourist attraction, Quezon City is one of Philippine's safest cities. Its police force has been trained to protect and offer directions to tourists. All the food and water in restaurants is absolutely safe. In case of an emergency, the area has top medical and hospital facilities; the better hotels provide medical assistance on their premises.
